Anita Schewe Drabyk’s art and photography are the result of experimenting with different media and incorporating the advice and expertise of various painters, photographers, and writers from across Canada. She grew up in a family where making your own cards was the norm and they had a great aunt who treated them with various art supplies in our childhood – inks, chalk pastels, an art book and much more.  

Eastman’s own local artists have also provided great inspiration, knowledge, and practice. She enjoys working with the subtleties of the light and colour of the prairies. Close-ups of flowers, birds, animals, and scenery can showcase the beauty and colour hidden in otherwise softer scenes. She works in pencil, pen & ink, watercolour, pastels, acrylic and oil as well as photography. Anita grew up on a farm in Manitoba, studied biology and ecology at both universities in Winnipeg, lived in Saskatoon, and then moved to Pinawa. She also had a two-year stay near Shanghai, China. Her art and her photography focus on all her interests stemming from her biology studies, her love of nature, the places she lived, the people she met, and her life experiences. 

Anita has been part of the Saskatoon Photography group, the Pinawa art and photography groups. She was taken courses at the Emily Carr School of Art, with Courtney Milne (photographer in Saskatchewan), and with many local artists. Having a daughter in Girl Guides, hockey and sports has expanded her subject areas for all her pursuits.
